Welcome to a classic afternoon in Stadshallen!
During two hours of musical enjoyment, we offer excerpts from Wagner's beloved works "Tristan and Isolde" and "Wesendonck Lieder". Four singers with solid experience from Nordic opera scenes and who are part of the Opera Choir at the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen will perform.
Richard Wagner (1813-1883) wanted to create an ideal atmosphere where the drama is at the center. He followed the philosophers of his time whose view of the world was pessimistic and it inspired Wagner to write about liberation and redemption in his operas. Our afternoon begins with the Wesendonck Lieder, the lyrics of which were written by Mathilde Wesendonck, and reflect Wagner's thoughts on freeing oneself from life's material squirrel wheels, desires and demands. We then continue further into Tristan and Isolde where this liberation is pushed so far that the couple renounces life in order to be united in eternal love in death. A program characterized by drama, fantastic music and love.
