They are among us, but few have heard their stories. In The Veterans we meet the Swedish soldiers who served in the war in Afghanistan.
In the play, the audience shares a room with some of the over 50,000 Swedish men and women who served in war zones abroad. With harsh humor and sincerity, we, the audience, are drawn into their attempts to remember what happened and understand their experiences.
What begins as a close-knit community soon develops into a struggle, where stories and memories diverge. A struggle where everyone tries to understand what they got themselves into, what happened, and who they have become.
The actors in the play give voice to the soldiers of reality, whom playwright Andreas Norman met for a long time and talked with before writing the play.
