Valeria Montti Colque, Esben Weile Kjær, Ihsan Saad, Ihsan Tahir and Matilda Tjäder
Lund Art Gallery 30 May – 30 August 2026
Opening Friday, May 29, 18–20 p.m.
Exhibition A rose is a rose is a rose is a rose brings together four contemporary artists active in Stockholm and Copenhagen. Common to their work is an exploratory, experimental and conceptual approach to global popular culture. Encounters with cultural historical references trigger an engagement with the present with connections both backwards and forwards. The visitor is exposed to sculptural designs, immersive sound works and performance works that invite new ways of experiencing and understanding how places, notions and ideals are transformed over time.
The exhibition's title is borrowed from the American avant-garde writer Gertrude Stein's (1874–1946) most notable play on words. Through repetition, the phrase shows how words not only carry meaning but also exist as independent entities. Stein's poetic formulation underlines the uniqueness of things and emphasizes their fundamental inherent nature. In contrast to symbolic or metaphorical interpretations, the exhibition highlights the immediate experience as something that can arouse strong impressions and emotions. In this way, it wants to lead the visitor directly to the art, and several of the works will enter into dialogue with the art gallery's architecture.
