Unknown Mortal Orchestra

Unknown Mortal Orchestra to the Dairy

Today, it's everywhere in alternative music: the fuzzed-out vocals, the dry, swinging drums, and the unconventional song structures. But when Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their self-titled debut in 2011, they were pioneers.

Writing great songs and then running them through a broken filter is a method that multi-instrumentalist Ruban Nielson has continued to refine ever since. So whether UMO has moved towards psychedelic lo-fi, funk, yacht rock or sun-bleached ballads, the warped signature has always followed.

The big breakthrough came with “Multi-Love” (2015), where UMO let psychedelic pop and funk meet an unusually open exploration of the limits and possibilities of love. “Sex & Food” (2018) borrowed its sound from all corners of the world while “V” (2023) was characterized by sunny melodies and West Coast-influenced harmonies. Now the journey continues with the new EP “Curse”, where Nielson turns to the darkness and draws inspiration from Italian horror films from the 70s and 80s.

On March 19, Unknown Mortal Orchestra will come to Mejeriet in Lund to remind the audience why Ruban Nielson remains one of indie music's most visionary voices.
