Saxophonist Gilbert Holmström is a true legend in Swedish jazz! This vital 89-year-old and his quintet are currently releasing their new album Kräm, the follow-up to the Grammy-nominated Peak, "a solid jazz album that lives and breathes, while also containing plenty of beautiful and melodic passages," according to Lira.
Gilbert's quintet was actually formed at Underground a few years ago, when Mathias Landæus invited Gilbert along with his trio and Norwegian trumpeter Erik Kimestad.
The band's repertoire reflects the breadth of Gilbert's long career, where he has been a pioneer in Sweden for more than one era. He is a prolific composer who carries jazz history within him, and who moves freely between different styles, whether it is standards, bebop, free jazz or jazz rock.
