The battle

Strong relationship drama seasoned with humor and unexpected twists.

Two brothers. Ben, the younger, seeks happiness in the big city. Magnus, the elder, stays at home and works in his father's motorcycle workshop. When Ben returns home for the first time in 13 years, to attend his father's funeral, the workshop has been turned into a rubbish heap of shredded machine parts and old fast food packaging. In the middle of the dirt, the brothers meet. Ben in a tailored suit, and Magnus with a leather jacket. The contrast could not be greater. The conflict is inevitable and the intrigues pile up. Who will speak at the funeral? What truths are allowed to emerge?

The battle is a newly written play by acclaimed playwright Anders Lustgarten, who has previously written for the UK's largest theatres. The drama raises tension on different levels; political about life in a small town versus a big city, personal relationships between two brothers, a love story and guilt as a result of life choices. Dritëro Kasapi, Riksteatern's director of theatre, directs.
