Leslie Feinberg's first novel, Stone butch blues, was published in 1993. It quickly became a classic and has been described as a working-class portrait, a butch/femme love story, a queer life, and a critique of the mainstream queer movement's betrayal of those who didn't fit in. The book is about Jess Goldberg, a young butch growing up in Buffalo in the northeastern United States during the 1960s and 1970s.
