Christmas is just around the corner and old man Pettson and the cat Findus are starting their preparations. When they set off with their sled to the forest to cut down a Christmas tree, things go a little too fast – Pettson falls over with his sled and injures his foot. Suddenly they can neither get to the store nor get a Christmas tree. What will happen to the Christmas spirit back home?
Findus is given responsibility for cleaning, and together they create their own Christmas tree from things they already have at home. But what about the Christmas food? Carrots and potatoes don't sound very festive.
Luckily, it turns out that Findus has been worrying unnecessarily. The neighbors show up one by one, each with something good to contribute, and in the end it becomes a truly warm and joyful Christmas Eve at the home of Pettson, Findus and the Mucklors.
