Pearl

Sit down. Breathe. Take a break from everything and let yourself be enveloped by Frauke's magical world.

In a combined film screening and dance performance, you follow a story that goes through the six senses; taste, sight, smell, hearing, touch and balance. It will be grand in a small and intimate format. A visual experience where the boundaries between the beautiful and the ugly are liberatingly fluid. In Pearl, Frauke explores the hidden beauty. A radiant power inside a dark shell.

We follow a woman's reality, the actual and the perceived, and how she changes and finds herself back. A story with a strong concentration of emotion, tension and presence.

Butoh is an avant-garde form of dance theater created in Japan in the late 1950s. The more international choreographers who work with the art form, the more different directions it continues to develop in.

Choreographer Caroline Lundblad, with the stage name Frauke, is recognized for her very own Scandinavian entrance. The contact with Japan is a prerequisite for her creation. In Kyoto, Japan, she does her artistic research, which forms the basis of her own vocabulary and expression. In Pearl there are also influences from the Japanese traditional Noh theatre, which Caroline studies with a master.

Much of the artistic team behind Pearl is based in Japan, including film director Yusuke Kitaguchi and costume designer Ryo Onishi – Pearl becomes a fashion lover's dream with several exceptional costume changes. The music is made by Daniel Troberg, based in Los Angeles.

The film shown in the performance, Pearl shining light, has been screened at international film festivals and won silver in the Paris Film Awards in December 2022 in the "Experimental" category.
