When Alba August, at a live Grammsigala, sang her heart out in her touching song 'Isabelle', it was clear: A new star had been lit in the Swedish music sky. Actor or not, the emotional performance straightened out any possible question marks and turned them into distinct exclamation points.
Just like her role model Kate Bush, August takes her starting point in the dramatic and unexpected. Over driving drums and big synth mats, she sings powerfully and unfiltered about anger, love and the longing for light in a way that tears down all defenses.
It was with the debut single 'We're Not Gonna Make It' that Alba August introduced herself to her audience. The song, which was also the theme song for the Netflix series 'The Rain', became the starting point for work on the debut album 'Still I Hide' (2022), which was recorded together with producer Tobias Fröberg (Frida Hyvönen, Ane Brun, Astrid S, etc.). And what can go wrong with songs like 'Lights', 'Honey', 'So Alive' and 'Killing Time'? The album was very much received with open arms by both critics and listeners and was also nominated twice for a Grammy and nominated for P3 Guld.
Alba is now up and running with the four-track EP "I Wish I Was Someone Else".
