Fine Together- music by Jan Johansson and Lars Gullin
contribute:
Fredrik Lindborg – baritone sax, clarinet, bass clarinet
Martin Sjöstedt – piano, double bass
About the program:
Music by two of Sweden's most unique jazz musicians, Jan Johansson and Lars Gullin interpreted by the Jan Johansson scholarship holder, pianist and bassist Martin Sjöstedt and the Gullin prize winner, woodwind player Fredrik Lindborg.
Artist biography
Martin and Fredrik are two of our strongest jazz voices, both with their own solo careers and many records and awards under their belt. Here they meet in a concert where inspiration is drawn from the legacy of Jan Johansson and Lars Gullin.
What largely distinguished Jan and Lars were the influences they both drew from Swedish folk music, which together with jazz created a new, unique form of music. In the newly written arrangements, you can clearly hear Jan's and Lars' voices mixed with Martin's and Fredrik's. In order to explore the nooks and crannies of the music, Martin and Fredrik vary the instrumentation by Martin playing both of his main instruments piano and double bass and Fredrik playing baritone saxophone as well as clarinet and bass clarinet.
