12 STRING CONSORT is a so-called violin band, or violin consort, an ensemble form that was very common in 1500th and 1600th century Europe. The word consort was used during this time to describe a particular instrumental ensemble, and ensembles usually consisted of instruments from the same instrument family. The violin family was still relatively new, and under development and experimentation, and therefore there were many different types and sizes of violins to explore.
The 12 String Consort's focus is on playing madrigals and instrumental music from this period, where a variety of beautiful and lesser-known works are played and put into context. Music by both later and more well-known composers is also woven into the program.
12 String Consort plays on period instruments and explores and researches how this music might have been played when it was written, both in terms of playing technique and how it might have sounded. During the concert, we tell curiosities about the music, the composers and our instruments.
Every Wednesday, from June 25th to August 6th, you are invited to brighten up your summer evening with music. Music this summer evening is made in collaboration with Sensus.
An exuberant music series awaits with classical, jazz, folk and popular music... everything to spice up the summer.
We remind you that you cannot hold a seat for someone else, but everyone who wants to go must be physically present.
