Moneybrother is going on a long tour this fall – and it will be a double celebration. 20 years after the style-defining album "To Die Alone", a new album is being released, born from the same musical world. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 28.
When Anders "Moneybrother" Wendin released "They're building walls around us" in 2005 – the first single from the second album To Die Alone – it was clear. The soulful strings, the driving rhythm, the skinless vocals and the regretfully pleading lyrics hit an entire country straight in the heart. On the foundation laid by the excellent debut “Blood Panic” was placed an album that was everything that the debut was, but more. More emotions, more soul, more darkness and more light and To Die Alone was considered by many to be the very best album of the year.
It's been 20 years now To Die Alone was released, but the album's punky soulful energy vibrates just as strongly now as it did then. After celebrating this with two magnificent concerts at the historic Göta Lejon in March, the party now continues - first with a tour of both Germany and Austria and then in Sweden. In conjunction with the tour, Moneybrother also releases their first album in English in 13 years - an album born from the same vibrant soundscape as 'To Die Alone'.
"I can understand that it's getting a bit... forced. That every time I go on tour, an old album should be celebrated. So this time we're tying it in with a new album. I had a child relatively late in life, at the age of 39. My cooking skills were a 2 out of 10 and I had never changed a diaper. Before the poor thing was two, I was completely responsible for him every other week and I realized it was time to step up. Unfortunately, it also meant that all the gigs abroad disappeared - being a dad at home every other week and on tour in Europe every other week was of course unsustainable.
After 1000 diapers and a slow improvement to 6 out of 10 in cooking, I am no longer single. And for a few years I have dreamed of going to Germany again. So. Now there is a new album in English, we are going down to the continent and playing clubs. But, the important thing I want to say is: when we come back from there, it will be on a new level. We will be together and ready for anything. I am proud of my reputation as a live artist and this turn in Sweden and Norway this autumn will be musical and lively. We play on our old instruments that look like they should hang in a museum. We do not have an LED screen with us and there will be a lot of us on stage. We may focus a little extra on To Die Alone because when I wrote those lyrics, well, what did I really know about life? When I sing them now I understand what it means to work, grieve and love.
