This spring, Markus released the single “Inget halleluja”, the song became a radio hit and with A-rotation on P3 it became the channel’s tenth most played song during the summer. On September 20, the sequel “Fakta: Fucked Up” was released and now it’s finally time for the album on February 7. After the album release, Krunegård + band will go on the nationwide tour “TOUR DE BASTARD”. He was on a great tour around Sweden this summer that was crowned by two Way Out West gigs – one in Finnish and one in Swedish which later became one of the festival’s most talked about gigs with a massive crowd and continuous sing-alongs. “In short, it’s going to be great fun, we live, we rock,” says Markus.
Markus Krunegård broke through as a solo artist with the album Markusevangeliet in 2008, his first single “Jag är en vampyr” is still one of his absolute greatest songs and has achieved iconic status. Since then, Markus has released seven more albums in Swedish, and one in Finnish. Markus is one of the country’s leading lyricists – his lyrics have created sing-alongs on the biggest festival stages, concert halls and IFK Norrköping’s home matches and set to music in small indie clubs and student corridors. Over the years, both journalists and listeners have noticed Markus’ inventive and surprising way of writing Swedish pop lyrics to the point that quotes have been tattooed on everyone from children to Mona Sahlin’s upper arm.
BLACK CURTAIN
Svart Ridå's upcoming, second, album is increasingly crystallising as one of the most exciting for the coming years. The first single "Slit ut min själ" saw the band take another step towards influences from both the 90s grunge wave and classic Swedish indie rock. The follow-up "Ord som læmmets kvar" - an epic almost 7-minute long song - developed the dynamics between noisy guitar solos and catchy pop loops. Now "Kall" is released - a song that grows, grows and grows against a wall of guitars and another perfect chorus.
“'Cold' is about fighting with the person you love most in the world. It could be a partner, close friend or family. It's up to the listener to decide. There's something both melancholic and hopeful about the song. Hopeful because you get perspective on how much the person means to you. Melancholic because you're so afraid of losing the most important thing you have.”
Things have been going fast and furious for Svart Ridå in the past year. Earlier this spring, the band won the prestigious GAFFA award as “Breakthrough of the Year” and the single “Illusion” thundered straight into rotation on P3. An acclaimed Way Out West performance, tributes from ELLE and PSL, among others, and support gigs for The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Glasvegas, Terra, Dungen and Solen brought the band’s music to an ever-larger audience. Another milestone was passed when Svart Ridå filled Debaser in Stockholm to capacity. Svart Ridå is one of the most uncompromising things you can see right now. The audience has made a pilgrimage and stories about the trio’s explosiveness have spread from word of mouth.
