Macie Stewart (US) + The Coastal Elites | FREE ADMISSION!

We are super excited to introduce Macie Stewart, multi-instrumentalist, composer/arranger, songwriter and improviser based in Chicago, to kick off the fall concert season!

MACIE STEWART (US)

From a very young age, Macie was naturally drawn to music and sound; to learn to communicate with music simultaneously as one learns to communicate with words. As the child of a professional musician (pianist Sami Scot), Stewart was encouraged to explore the piano and violin through classical training which in turn led to her teaching herself to play guitar and compose music for herself and others.

After co-founding Chicago bands Kids These Days and Marrow, Macie was drawn into the city's avant-garde jazz scene, performing regularly at respected music institutions Constellation and The Hungry Brain. In that context, the duo Finom was formed with singer/songwriter Sima Cunningham and violin/cello duo Macie Stewart & Lia Kohl.

Stewart has toured as a multi-instrumentalist with bands such as Japanese Breakfast, The Weather Station, Chance The Rapper, Makaya McCraven and Tweedy. Stewart has also worked for several years as a string arranger, using his varied background in classical, jazz and Irish folk music to create unique arrangements for artists and bands such as Whitney, SZA, VV Lightbody, Knox Fortune and many others.

Stewart's experience as an open-minded collaborator and composer has led to her music continuing to be expansive with the help of her experience in various genres and juxtapositions while intentionally always seeking new avenues. “Mouth Full of Glass” is her debut solo project released in the fall of 2021 in the US and internationally in the fall of 2022. “Mouth Full of Glass” is the product of Stewart taking on a brave new perspective; to take a closer look in the mirror and create an album of your own.

THE COASTAL ELITES (SE)

The Coastal Elites is jazz-influenced rock'n'roll that brings to mind artists such as the Velvet Underground, Love and Elliot Smith. The ambition is to create folk music for people like themselves - rootless people from all corners who struggle with addiction, toxic behavior, divorce, parenthood, etc... Their single Easter was named one of the best Malmö songs of the year by Sydsvenskan.
