Meet Thomas Rydén – the art historian, book historian and Lunda resident, who exposed French book thieves and the Italian mafia.
Thomas Rydén, art historian and book historian, defended his thesis on an Anglo-Saxon manuscript from the 900th century. He has written about various manuscripts at the University of Lund, inventoried illuminated manuscripts in Swedish collections and researched Queen Christina's manuscripts at the Vatican Library. Thomas has also written about Lund Cathedral.
After a few years of running his own business as an art dealer, he now works at Crafoord Auctions in Lund. In parallel with that work, he has spent his free time searching for old manuscripts that have been stolen, buying them up online, and in this way saving cultural heritage.
Hear him tell you how detective work works and why cultural heritage crime is a growing problem.
