Lunch Music: Paris 1707 – A Musical Salon

Chamber music by Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre

“The wonder of the century,” was how the French Baroque composer Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre was described in 1677 by the newspaper Mercure Galant. When three decades later she performed
publishing a collection of chamber music, it was praised by both critics and Louis XIV himself. The works were considered both unique and innovative, and thanks to them she was ranked at the time of her death
as one of the country's greatest composers.

Today, music can truly speak for itself when it takes us into a world of expressive melodies and virtuoso dance rhythms. All skillfully composed with a large measure of musical storytelling joy.

Music from the collection Pièces de clavecin qui peuvent se jouer sur le violon & Sonates pour le violon et pour le clavecin, (Paris 1707)
