Linton Kwesi Johnson + The Wizard + Österlen Dub Factory

Since the 1970s, Linton Kwesi Johnson has performed by reading his sharply formulated and socially commenting poetry to instrumental reggae rhythms – an art form that has been called microphone poetry.

Kwesi Johnson was born in Jamaica and came to South London at the age of eleven in 1963. There he became politically aware at an early age, studied sociology and joined the Black Panthers. His first lyrics were published in the magazine “Race Today” in 1974, and with his debut album “Dread Beat An’Blood” in 1978 he described police brutality, racism and life as an Afro-Caribbean immigrant in Britain.

LKJ has since had a very diverse and successful career as an artist, poet and journalist. He has toured all over the world and received a long list of awards for his pioneering efforts in poetry and reggae. A very special and powerful experience awaits us at Mejeriet.

The evening will also be graced by Trollkarlen, who, together with his seven-piece band, will offer authentic roots reggae with deep bass lines, tight drums and dubbing guitars. Last but not least, we will see Österlen Dub Factory, who will play the heaviest hits you can find from Kingston to Lund from the last 50 years.
