Monika Sosnowska, born in 1972, is active in Warsaw and known for her large-scale installations that challenge the boundaries between sculpture and architecture. She often uses traditional building materials such as rebar, concrete or steel beams as her starting point, creating deformed structures that can be experienced as sagging, unstable or completely collapsed. Sosnowska repeatedly refers to historical buildings and conveys stories of societies in change. Monika Sosnowska has received numerous awards over the years and her work has been exhibited at, among others, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London and the Venice Biennale.

The new installation “Museum” (2025) is Monika Sosnowska's first permanent work in the Nordic countries. The inspiration comes from a planned museum in Rosendal that King Karl XIV Johan initiated in the 1830s. Despite ten years of planning, the museum was never realized, but hundreds of marble pieces were ordered and have since been stored in a dark storage room. Eleven of these almost 200-year-old original building blocks are now seeing the light of day again when they are integrated into newly cast concrete elements. History meets contemporary times in a sculpture that is located on the border between architecture and art. The sculpture is located on Rosendalsterrassen, where the planned museum was supposed to have stood.

Princess Estelle's Cultural Foundation was established in 2019 on the initiative of The Crown Princess Couple. Founded in tradition, independence and a long-term perspective, the vision is to enrich Sweden with culture as a unifying force. One goal is to make art accessible and create meeting places for everyone, from curious explorers to dedicated art lovers. Therefore, the foundation is establishing a permanent world-class sculpture park in the Rosendal area, in collaboration with the Royal Djurgården Administration. Each year, a new artist and a new sculpture are presented. “Museum” is the sixth work acquired by Princess Estelle’s Cultural Foundation.
