Summer holiday workshop - Don't throw it away: repair, patch, tinker!

Summer vacation workshop
Don't throw it away: Make a patch, tinker with it!

Artist visiting the workshop: LealVeileby

In 2024, we invite local artists to hold workshops for children and young people based on their own artistry.

The artist duo LealVeileby is holding a workshop where everyone is welcome to bring things to make! Do you have something at home that might be able to be prepared and used again instead of being thrown away?

Together we work practically and creatively with cooking, while thinking about how we can actively take care of and repair things to keep them out of the landfill.

With glue, steel wire, nails, tape, patches and wire, we together carry out light repairs of things that are broken. Maybe it's a favorite toy that needs a new lease of life, a household item that has been faithfully used and worn a little too long, a piece of clothing that with a little patching can last a while longer, or why not bring that disposable gadget that you otherwise don't think about in more than one time?!

Repairing and patching can be seen as a radical act in a world built around wear and tear. Together we talk about the importance of valuing things around us, the need to repair things in our everyday life and why it is important to reduce waste in society.

The workshop is aimed at families with children and is suitable for children and young people aged 6 and up. Materials for making are provided, as well as themed crafts for the very little ones.

About the artist duo:
LealVeileby (António Leal, 1976 and Jesper Veileby, 1985) is a Portuguese-Swedish artist duo stay in Malmö and active in Sweden and Portugal. Both are educated at the Art Academy in Malmö at Lund University and work with video, objects, installation and photography. The duo often use a queer/magical framework to examine and reinterpret scientific, political and cultural assumptions about the world.

The workshop at Lunds Konsthall takes its point of departure from the duo's work Domestic Heroes, in which the duo in collaboration with António Leal's father Ismael Leal prepares simple everyday objects and gives them new life and elevated status. Parts of the Domestic Heroes series were last shown at Malmö Konsthall 2023 during the group exhibition "In the city a field grows - 50 artists in Malmö".
