Johan Östling lectures on how people have spread knowledge in society in different ways throughout history. Every country and era has its great scientists, intellectuals and educational reformers. In a new book, Knowledge Actors, however, it is highlighted how a variety of historical actors have been important in conveying knowledge. How can we write a broader, more diverse story about the history of knowledge? In that case, which people should be selected and how should these be analyzed?
Johan Östling, professor of history and director of the Center for the History of Knowledge at Lund University, is one of the editors of the book Knowledge Actors. Revisiting Agency in the History of Knowledge (together with David Larsson Heidenblad & Anna Nilsson Hammar, 2023).
