About the program:
The lute virtuoso John Dowland was employed at several of the European courts and is one of the most important English composers of all time. Tonight we hear some of his beloved lute songs which made Dowland a superstar around 1600 and onwards. Who would have thought that he would die alone and destitute?
Artist Biography:
Martin Vanberg is an internationally sought-after baroque tenor.
He is a regular guest on concert stages in Europe with ensembles such as Europa Galante, Accademia Bizantina, I Solisti Veneti and others.
Martin has sung operatic roles at, among others, Drottningholm, Confidencen, Gothenburg Opera, Malmö Opera, festspiele in Potsdam, Innsbruck and in the Elbphilharmonie. As a lute singer, Martin has previously performed with Scandinavian baroque ensembles as well as solo, and he is the only Swede to perform this repertoire both as a singer and as a lutenist.
