Artist Biography:
The Finnish-born accordion virtuoso and composer Minna Weurlander became world accordion champion at the age of 15 and is now considered one of Europe's most active and foremost concert accordionists.
Minna's own music and playing style have been strongly influenced by the Russian virtuoso accordion tradition as well as by the Argentinian contemporary tango. Her artistic expression and musical breadth make her a completely unique artist who has attracted great interest from an international audience. She has also been named prize winner at the prestigious Premio Internazionale Astor Piazzolla.
Minna is trained at the prestigious soloist line at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Minna has been active in Sweden for 25 years. Over the years, there have been collaborations with everything from symphony orchestras to experimental dance performances and chamber music ensembles, string quartets and smaller ensembles, film music, theater music and opera.
In February 2025, a new concerto for accordion and orchestra will have its premiere, written for Minna by one of Sweden's great conductors/composers, Hans Ek.
