Johan Airijoki

In October he released his sixth album, "Rockens vingar", which was praised by both audiences and critics. Johan Airijoki has built a reputation as a live act beyond the ordinary. Swinging, suggestive and dynamic. On March 14th you will see him at Mejeriet!

The audience has grown gig by gig. Johan Airijoki has long been something of a hidden treasure, cherished by the audience who discovered his songwriting themselves. From being a favorite in the northern parts of the country, he has grown to sell out major rock clubs in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

During the winter and spring of 2026, Airijoki will go on a longer tour. He will bring with him both the new album and of course all the older songs, which often result in sing-alongs.
The album "Rockens vingar", Airijoki's sixth, released on October 10th via Top Hit Records, dares to explore a wide spectrum of genres where the common denominator is a warm, organic, live-recorded soundscape. With an inherent sprawl, "Rockens vingar" simultaneously sounds like both Airijoki's heaviest and most fragile album to date.

"I come from a homemade lo-fi-inspired musical background. Then I've tried quite a few different styles and I think I'll continue to explore. "Rockens vingar" has some rock in it. The guitar amplifier is turned up and there's quite a lot of energy in the music. But there are also country tracks, or what you could call country. It's when you get to a certain age that you start to get interested in country. Before that, you just think it sounds pretty cheesy, like a dance band, but then you understand this contrast between major-key songs and pitch-black lyrics. How exciting it is, this friction. Along the way, I've started writing more country-like songs."

Significant for "Rockens vingar" is the touch of humor found in the lyrics - something that Airijoki believes is an important part of songwriting.

"In how you communicate with people, there is always a streak of humor. Even when it's darkest and heaviest in life, there is always a streak of humor, gallows humor. And that's in my songs. Where I come from in the north, people have black humor, quite pitch-black, and I think that has influenced my writing quite a bit. That it's there like a crooked smile. That's something that I really like."
