Jakob Hellman

“New album! Huge tour! We have to tell you about this!
In a way, Jakob Hellman is just his songs. And I have all the respect for that, really, for someone who succeeds in the feat of being his art, or if it's the other way around, that one's art is one's life. He has never done anything less good than his debut album ...and the great sea. It's admirable and an unshakable fact. You kind of have a feeling, no, a conviction that it will always be that way. Almost completely without biographical knowledge about him, other than this particular... song treasure. It almost always feels silly to use that word, song treasure, but there's nothing else that fits.
I'm starting over. Jakob was the great savior and innovator of Swedish pop a long time ago. But he disappeared after his debut. Did occasional gigs and small tours, but no new album, none of the new absolutely wonderful songs were recorded.

But then, seemingly out of nowhere, he came back with an equally strong collection of songs 30 years later, and the album Finally Gone.
And since then he has proven time and time again that he is a formidable live artist, doing ever bigger tours and proving that he is more than just nostalgia and babysitting and a night out with old friends. But what do you do then? Yes, you keep fighting, of course. Grateful and diligent.
I'm starting over. But where to start? In the Vuollerim of my childhood or in the Falun of my youth? Or with a personal memory, when we sat on a tour bus together and listened to Ted Gärdestad and life was pretty amazing? Or when I saw him live in Boden shortly after his debut and just cried at how good he was? Or when I got to sing with him much later? Or when he borrowed my band Nerverna for a little summer tour and how lame I was then?
All I really know is that there will be a new album this spring! It's called "Sluet got" and it will of course be the best, just like usual. And he's going on a huge tour! Jakob Hellman is still the savior and innovator of Swedish pop."
