Join us on a journey to ancient Egypt, where a garbage heap turned out to hide a whole world of voices, life and poetry.
The starting point for the evening is The garbage heap of Oxyrhynchos – a well-received book at Ellerströms publishing house, but also an acclaimed art installation and theater performance at Orionteatern in Stockholm.
Through ancient text fragments from the Egyptian city of Oxyrhynchos – everything from private letters, purchase contracts and incantations, to previously unknown poems – we step straight into everyday life in an ancient city.
Program
17:30 – Conversation about the ancient city of Oxyrhynchos, the papyrus finds, and translating 2000-year-old Greek texts.
18:10–18:20 – Break
18:20–19:00 – Presentation of the process of creating an art installation and theater performance based on the papyrus texts.
