Tribute to pattern master Sven Fristedt – new book

Culture in Lund exhibition Sven Fristedt – master of patterns has now received a sequel in book form with the same name, published by Carlssons Bokförlag. Sven Fristedt was one of the most productive and appreciated Swedish textile designers of our time, with clients such as Ikea, Borås Wäfveri and Katja of Sweden. When the book was just about to go to print in June, the tragic news came that Sven had suddenly passed away. He was deeply involved in the creation of the book until the very end. Now we are celebrating his artistry through an event around the newly published book.

In the book Sven Fristedt – master of patterns we meet an artist who, with a very personal way of expression, has influenced countless homes with his colorful printed fabrics. His creativity and creation span more than 60 years. He made his first pattern before he turned 20 and it was an immediate success. Since then, he has continued to produce, continued to surprise and constantly found new forms, materials and expressions.

Program at 14.00:15.00 PM–XNUMX:XNUMX PM

The book's main author, Kulturen's curator Anna Lindqvist, invites artist Dyveke Zadig and antiquarian Marie Odenbring Widmark to a conversation about Sven Fristedt's artistry. There will also be pictures and stories that take the audience behind the scenes during the work on the exhibition and the book. Kulturen's photographer Nelly Hercberg, who documented the treasure trove of patterns that Sven donated to Kulturen's collections as well as the work on the exhibition and the book, will also participate.

The artist Dyveke Zadig got to know Sven in the 1970s. Through her, Sven learned the basics of stencil making and hand printing. He then became a member of KKV-Textiltryck Malmö, where he then produced his large and unique hand prints on fabric. Marie Odenbring Widmark has researched the textile industries where Sven was active, and writes about them in the book.

After the conversation, we show the last filmed interview with Sven Fristedt, which was recorded on April 20, 2025. (approx. 15 min).

Pre-purchase your ticket, seating is limited. The talk will be held in the Auditorium, on the second floor of the White House (entrance building).
