From medical imaging to drug development, AI is transforming biomedical research. But the technology also requires significant amounts of energy and resources. Join this panel discussion during Sustainability Week to explore AI's environmental impact, its potential, and what responsible use can look like in Sweden.
During Sustainability Week in Lund, the sustainability committee at Lund Stem Cell Center invites you to an open panel discussion about artificial intelligence and sustainability.
AI systems are increasingly used in research, healthcare, industry and everyday life. But AI also requires large amounts of computation, data storage and hardware – all of which have environmental and energy costs. At the same time, AI has the potential to support more efficient systems, better resource utilization and improved decision-making.
This event explores both sides.
The program consists of short presentations followed by a moderated panel discussion and a Q&A session with the audience. The goal is to move from general principles to practical tips: what choices can researchers, students, organizations, and policymakers make to reduce the impact while still benefiting from AI?
The event is open to students, researchers, professionals and the general public interested in technology, sustainability and responsible innovation.
Lunch is included. Register by April 14, 2026. via the following link: Register today (link to Microsoft Forms in English)
The event is organized by Lund Stem Cell Center and the strategic research area StemTherapy at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University. Lund Stem Cell Center was founded in 2003 and is a leading academic research organization driving developments in stem cell biology and regenerative medicine at Lund University. Our research community consists of 44 research groups with over 300 members, and established its own sustainability committee in 2022.
The event is part of Sustainability Week 2026, which runs from 13 to 18 April. Sustainability Week is an annual event in Lund organised in collaboration between Lund University and Lund Municipality. The week serves as a platform to gather ideas, raise public awareness and inspire sustainable change.
