Flamenco All-Stars: Alma Söderberg (SE)
Flamenco All-Stars is a collaboration between FlamencoFredag and World Sessions and consists of artists who participate in FlamencoFredag in Stockholm – like a bunch of touring flamenco superheroes! In April, we will be visited by the internationally renowned choreographer Alma Söderberg, who has been inspired by flamenco in her artistry throughout the years. We welcome her to solo the first part of the evening, and then share the second set with the house band Tres de Corazones in traditional Tablao-spirit.
In this solo concert, Alma Söderberg sings a repertoire of songs created for her dance performances. Using a loop station, she creates layers of rhythm and melody and mixes language and gesture. The lyrics of the songs use or take inspiration from poems by Sappho, Mishima, Pizarnik and Lorca. Musically, Alma Söderberg draws inspiration from different types of music, ranging from flamenco, experimental electronic music and hip hop.
Alma Soderberg is a choreographer and performer who works with music and dance. She uses her voice and her body to play the room as if it were an instrument. Her ongoing research revolves around how we listen when we see; the relationship between the ear and the eye. She has based her practice on several solo performances but has also created duets, trios and group works in collaboration with various artists, collectives and institutions. She is mainly trained in contemporary dance and flamenco, including at Matilde Coral Escuela de Danza in Seville, Amor de Dios in Madrid, Gotlands danceutbildningar in Visby and SNDO in Amsterdam. Since 2019 she has also worked with temporary curations, such as the EarEye festival, with the same focus as in her artistic practice.
