Sensus Study Association invites you to an afternoon on the theme of the importance of nature for existential sustainability at Lund City Hall! We explore the topic from different perspectives through panel discussions, art, creation, film screenings and try-out exercises, all under one roof.
Existential sustainability is about humans' relationship to themselves, each other and the nature of which we are all a part. But in the relationship between humans and nature, the distance and imbalance are becoming increasingly clear. What does this mean for us as individuals and for the collective context? How do we instead create the conditions to live in meaningful balance with what is around us?
13:00 PM-16:00 PM on the Entrance Floor:
Creative workshops and art
Johanna Bianca Rehn is a versatile artist and illustrator based in Malmö who, through her imaginative and present works, creates a deep fascination for the interaction between humans and nature. On site are Johanna's works that invite us to explore our connection to the world around us. During the afternoon she holds creative workshops for adults and children on the following themes:
At 13.00-15.00 in Botulfshörnan:
Film screening: The Last Observers and the music video “Woods” (25 minutes + 5 minutes)
The Last Observer: Karin and Lennart have, every three hours, day and night, seven days a week, every day of the year, devoted themselves to observing weather changes. When they met 40 years ago, there were over 200 manual weather stations with observers in Sweden. In recent decades, automated stations have replaced manual work, but Karin and Lennart have continued their observations with rare perseverance. Told through the eyes of their daughter Maja, we are invited into an extraordinary and heartwarming love story, where lasting happiness is found in birds, the rhythms of everyday life and a deep connection with nature.
Maja K Mikkelsen is a filmmaker and artist with a background in marine biology. Her work aims to inspire change in an uplifting and relatable way.
Showtimes: 1:00 PM, 1:30 PM, 2:00 PM and 2:30 PM
Woods: For their performance SELF, about mental health and the pursuit of happiness in our time, Svanholm Singers commissioned new music – including Woods, arranged by Henrik Dahlgren. In the atmospheric video, created by Andreas Paulsson, the singers seek out nature to rediscover stillness, community and meaning – a hope that nature can still carry us when all else feels lost.
Lyrics & music: Bon Iver, Arrangement: Henrik Dahlgren, Performed by: Svanholm Singers, Conductor: Sofia Söderberg, Sound recording: Per Sjöstén / Footprint Records, Video recording: Andreas Paulsson
Showtimes approx: 1:25 PM, 1:55 PM, 2:25 PM and 2:55 PM
2:00 PM-3:00 PM in the Amphitheater:
Panel discussion
How do humans encounter nature in our time? Can we continue to compromise with what we actually depend on? How do we create space for the power and importance of nature? And what difference would it make in our lives if we strengthened our relationship with nature on more equal terms?
Welcome to conversations where we address these issues from different perspectives together with:
Marianne Larsson works with health and well-being in nature in her company Källarbacken. Among other things, she guides participants in nature experiences that strengthen both body and soul, inspired by Shinrin Yoku (forest bathing).
Mimmi Bissmont works as an environmental and climate strategist at the Diocese of Lund. The Church of Sweden highlights the spiritual and existential as one of four dimensions of sustainable development. Mimmi's mission includes supporting parishes and pastorates in their sustainability work.
Patrick Bellan is a tree specialist and plant technician and is working in Malmö to create a greener and more robust city for both the city and its residents, today and in the future. For Patrick, proximity to greenery is a matter of justice.
15:00 PM-16:00 PM in the Amphitheater and Botulfs Corner:
