Ecology and forms – Peter Sheppard Skærved

The internationally acclaimed and Grammy-nominated violinist Peter Sheppard Skærved is again a guest at Lund Contemporary. Sheppard Skærved, who has a large production of disc recordings in his luggage and is frequently engaged as a solo violinist all over the world, has also been a practicing visual artist throughout his life, with thousands of paintings in his production. This unique concert focuses on violin pieces where the composer was inspired by Sheppard Skærved's own paintings. We get to experience the result of a cross-genre game, where the work is bounced back and forth between the artists on several levels. Is it ultimately the composer's interpretation or Peter's own tableau that rings through the violin? In addition to music by established composers, three works by composition students from the Academy of Music - inspired by paintings where Sheppard Skærved combined nature and ecology with abstract forms - will be performed for the first time!

Our program will include:
Sadie Harrison: from “Gallery”
Robert Saxton: “Reflections in Time”
Rolf Martinsson: “Landscape”
Peter Sheppard Skaerved: from “A Futhork for Jan Groth”
David Riebe: “Coffee by the Plague Pit”
Three premieres by Kevin Andersson, Breki Sigurdarson and Rasmus Ringdahl, composition students at the Academy of Music in Malmö.
