The Democracy Monument to the Swedish Parliament is presented by artists Astrid Göransson and David Skoog

Artist Astrid Göransson and photographer David Skoog talk about the everyday lives of the monument makers and their work on the democracy monument to the Swedish Riksdag, which commemorates the introduction of universal and equal suffrage in 1921. The work honors the first five female members who entered the Swedish Riksdag in January 1922; Kerstin Hesselgren, Elisabeth Tamm, Nelly Thüring, Bertha Wellin and Agda Östlund.

Astrid and David show pictures and talk about how the place and people they met played a crucial role in the design of the work, which is entitled "Come as you are!"

The performance ends with a conversation about what it means to work with public art.

“In several ways, Göransson challenges established notions of what public art can be. Among other things, by allowing his own practice to develop in dialogue with the people affected by the artworks; but also by renegotiating the conventions around how a work can be tied to a place.” Dan Jonsson

The lecture starts at 18 pm and the location is Botulfshörnan, on the ground floor of the City Hall. Accessibility-friendly venue

An unmissable opportunity to take part in the artist's thoughts and creative background to one of the great and, on many levels, epoch-making monuments of our time.

Welcome!

The lecture is included in Aura's program series spring 2025 which consists of a number of program items on public art developed by the Aura Art Association's program group. It includes the artists Barbro Westling, Johan Suneson and Jukka Värelä.
