David Eugene Edwards is a serious man. Grave serious. His intense hymns about sin and forgiveness are in no way anything other than the deepest seriousness. Anyone who has seen him live, with the solo project Wovenhand or as the frontman of the now defunct 16 Horsepower, knows that he means what he sings about, and it is impossible not to be touched.
David Eugene Edwards has something to tell - stories of love, faith, fear and evil, sudden death. Each song is performed as if it were his very last, yet some kind of hope is conveyed among the apocalyptic anthems. The music is powerful, evocative, terrifying and mysterious, and sometimes terrifying. For the uninitiated, Tom Waits and Nick Cave are good references, but imagine them in their darkest moments.
