So 100 years later, the 20s are often remembered as one long dizzy party where women in short dresses, swinging long pearl necklaces and headbands with feathers sweeping into their bobbed hair danced the Charleston all night long. Young, wild and decadent! But isn't there more to discover about those who lived in the 20s?
The 1920s were a turbulent and troubled time when everything seemed to happen at once. Inventions in transportation, communication and media shrunk the world. Social inequalities gave rise to the emergence of political ideologies and, by extension, women's suffrage. All that is new can also be seen in art, architecture, music, film, literature and not least in fashion, which tentatively takes on new forms. The most ground-breaking, however, was the change in people's behavior and in particular for women's way of being. The era is in many ways the gateway to our time as we know it.
During this talk, we take a deep dive into what it was like as an innovative woman to live, love and work in big cities like Paris, Berlin, London, New York and Stockholm during the 1920s. We get to know some of the strong-willed and driven women who helped shape the new world, intellectually, politically and artistically. Both famous and unknown women get to put a face on and give voice to their time.
In conclusion, this is indeed a talk about clothes and fashion in the 1920s, but it will not stop at skirt lengths or hairstyles, but is about something as big and inspiring as new ways of stay and being a woman.
