The Best Festival is the main public event of the Best Biennale and Sweden's largest art event for children and young people.
During the Best Festival, the artist Helena Olsson will exhibit several of her works at Lund's art gallery, but in a slightly unexpected place! Helena Olsson's video work everyday work, and objects from the work can be seen during the period 24 October – 5 November.
Everyday work
In the video work Everyday work various props are used that the artist needs in his never-ending attempts to prey on the ever-recurring dirt. The need to clean and the artist's determination to keep clean never end, and in the video work we get to take part in a cycle of "pointless" cleaning. Artists highlight the fact that cleaning in the home is unpaid and invisible work that often goes completely unnoticed. Helena's humorous undertone in the works underlines the irony in the difference between what is generally interpreted as working time and what is seen as leisure time, in some cases also personal time.
About the artist
Helena Olsson (born 1982) lives and works in Yngsjö, which is located by Hanö Bay in the Scanian countryside. She is educated at Malmö School of Art at Lund University and works with video, performance and photography. Helena draws inspiration from scenes from everyday life which she recreates as scenographies in her artworks. In many of her works, home and family are present in different ways; the home as a physical place and family life as identity-creating and norm-affirming.
