Just buttons, no stitches! – Button Masala revisited

Welcome to a textile exhibition created by children and young people in collaboration with Indian designer Anuj Sharma!

Until February 2026, we will be showing an exhibition created with Button Masala during the Best Festival 2025. As long as the exhibition is open, you can try out the simple and sewing-free technique to create your own clothes, artwork or accessories that you can then take home with you.

⭐ What is Button Masala?

Button Masala is a design system for transforming fabrics using buttons and elastic bands. There is also a philosophy behind the method: to do a lot with a little, to learn by trying, and to trust the process. Designer Anuj Sharma encourages everyone to both copy and experiment.

How did the work come about?

During 8 workshops during the autumn holidays 2025, children of different ages have learned how the Button Masala design system works. Under the supervision of Anuj, the participants have experimented with recycled fabrics in different sizes. They have attached buttons to sheets and draped them on themselves and each other. Some have worked on creating small, similar parts that are then joined together to form garments or abstract shapes. Anuj encourages the participants to work quickly with their hands and let their thoughts come afterwards. Step by step, a larger construction has grown in the room, without a plan or finished idea. The base consists of scaffolding and a four-meter-long hedge from one of the wings of the Kronetorp mill. Since nothing is sewn together, the fabrics have been able to be taken apart, rearranged and rebuilt during each workshop. What used to be tablecloths, sheets and towels has now become a room, an unusual fashion show, and a stay installation, where hundreds of hands, ideas and solutions meet.

🎄Throughout December we are open for Christmas on Fridays from 13-17 pm!

Create Christmas decorations with Button Masala at the craft table and help dress our artificial tree. Coffee is available for a small fee.

Also take the opportunity to experience our second exhibition "Kompis-konst" which is displayed in the passage, where children from Tunaskolan, Nyvång and Backsippan's adapted primary schools have created fantasy creatures under the guidance of artist Felicia Hansen.
