Repatriation of Sami remains and sacred objects

Amnesty Sápmi

Content:
In October, the government decided that Lund University may return two skulls of Sami origin to the Lule-Boden Sami Association. It is about the skulls of two unknown Sami men that were brought to archaeologist Sven Nilsson's collection in Lund in 1875. How is it that so many Sami remains and sacred objects have still not been recovered? And why is it important? Kerstin Andersson, board member of Amnesty Sápmi, and a forest Sami with ancestry in Gällivare forest Sami village, tells us about this. Kerstin is involved in issues surrounding the repatriation of Sami remains and sacred objects, in accordance with the UN's Indigenous Peoples Declaration. The moderator is the journalist and author Nina Hjelmgren.
